First, I must admit I feel drained. Yup, I am tired. I’ve been running at full throttle most of the year. When I wasn’t working up to 20 hours per day, especially during the summer months when I had to go through two surgeries and recovery, I still managed to put in some time in order to keep things going. I was looking forward to this week following Christmas to have some down time in order to be refreshed. I got in a little relaxation, but not enough. There were still meetings to go to and tasks to be completed. Fortunately, God’s mercy is renewed day by day, and as a result my inner self is refreshed and I’m able to press on another day!
And that brings me to my next feeling – delighted. Yes, I am filled with exuberance, thanksgiving and joy because of all of the people who have gotten involved with Celebrate Outreach this year – volunteers helping serve free meals, donors supporting our activities, community leaders vowing to take next steps with us, and new friends sharing their excitement. And I am delighted, not only by our accomplishments, but also by the news coverage we received. This year can be seen as a turning point in our organizational history.
As I look forward to 2016, the final feeling I am experiencing is determined. Uh huh, that’s right! We cannot rest on our laurels or become satisfied with our past achievements because there is still so much more to do. Through divine strength and community support, we still must build housing and destroy myths. We must expand opportunities and shrink the number of people experiencing homelessness. How can we be rested when our neighbors restlessly search for affordable housing, healthy food and living wages?
So, thank you for a wonderful year full of accomplishments, advancements and acclamation! We could not have done it without you. I’m looking forward to working together with you in 2016 to help prevent and end homelessness in greater St. Petersburg and beyond!
